How Jurassic Park Sparked My Passion for VFX

In 1994, I watched Jurassic Park for the first time, unaware that it would change my life forever. At that time, I neither understood English nor knew what “Jurassic” meant—I only recognized “Park” and assumed the skeleton on the

poster meant it was a ghost movie. But the moment I saw the dinosaurs, I froze. My mind kept racing: Why were these animals never mentioned in scho

ol? I was convinced they were real and acting in the film.

When my father returned from a trip, I excitedly explained the movie to him. He tried to convince me that dinosaurs had been extinct for ages, but I refused to believe it. To my shock, he told me they were created using computers. At first, it felt like a lie, but it sparked my curiosity about computers and filmmaking.

My Journey Into the World of VFX

Over time, my interest in computers faded as I focused on school. One day, a friend convinced me to watch Terminator 2. I wasn’t particularly interested, but I went along. The film left me in awe, reigniting my fascination with movies. The recovery of T1000 after bullet shots was completely satisfying.

Unfortunately, I failed my 12th-grade exams, and my father urged me to find a career path. Around the same time, I got my hands on a CD of Jurassic Park again. Watching it with fresh eyes, my passion reignited. At that time, I didn’t even know this field was called VFX.

Determined to learn more, I joined Arena Multimedia in Bhubaneswar. My journey then took me to Chennai, where I studied CINEON, and finally to Mumbai, where I trained at MAAC. I eventually passed my 12th-grade exams, but by then, I was fully engrossed in my VFX career. Looking back, it all started with a movie that made me believe in dinosaurs again.
